The road to 13.1: Proper pacing

27 February 2009

Thursday’s 4-mile run was a blast, even though it started really early.  First, here’s the big picture:

Run #20:  4.06 miles, 42:28, 10:27.5/mile

I was very, very happy with that time.  I felt good all the way through, even when I had to tromp through some snow.  On top of that, though, my splits made me really happy.

Mile 1:  10:40.84
Mile 2:  10:49.12
Mile 3:  10:49.05
Mile 4:  9:42.99

The first three miles were great because I paced myself well.  My pacing on miles 2 and 3 was … wow.  The reward for that hard work was the fourth mile.  I felt so incredibly good as I powered (well, for me, anyway) through that last mile.
