Survey: Fifteen more interesting questions

26 August 2009

Courtesy Richard, here are a few more questions for you to answer when you have time on your hands.

1.  In as few words as possible, if you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?

I wouldn’t.

2.  Would you rather be loved, feared, or respected, and why?

I’m going to go with respected.  Fear won’t be necessary under those circumstances.  Love will come if and when it’s going to come.

3.  Hell is …

… an unincorporated community near Pinckney in Livingston County, Michigan.  Seriously.

4.  Ecstasy is …

… an illegal drug.

5.  Contentment is …

… a 10-mile run on a cool, fall morning with a few of my best friends.

6.  Do you believe in God, god, or gods?

I believe in God.

7.  If you profess a religion, are you observant?

I’m fairly observant.  I’m sure I could occasionally be a better kid, but I could also be worse.  I teach Sunday school, so I have to get at least partial credit for that … right?

8.  Of the Cardinal Virtues of Western Civilisation, which is most important to you:  prudence, courage, justice, or moderation?

I’ll take courage.  I think the other ones require some degree of courage.

9.  Do you read fiction?

I don’t object to reading fiction, but I don’t read much outside of work.

10.  Personally, subjectively, what is your most meaningful accomplishment?

In the grand scheme of things, is anything that I’ve done really, truly meaningful.  I’m not sure.

11.  In a single sentence, what would your epitaph say?

(nothing)

I don’t want a tombstone, or an epitaph, or even an urn.  I want to be cremated and scattered somewhere, thereby ensuring that I take up no space after I’m gone.

12.  What historical figure do you most admire?

Let’s go with Abraham Lincoln.  He saved the Union, even if he did a crappy job of picking top generals.

13.  Why do parasites exist?

Because it is so much easier to live off someone else’s resources than to live off resources one has earned herself/himself/itself.

14.  Other than “here and now”, where and when would you most like to live?

I’d live in the United States during World War II.  I’d join the Navy and ask to fly a Corsair.

15.  If there were a genie granting wishes, what one problem would you fix?

I’d fix the world’s energy problems.  I think that the number of conflicts over energy resources will increase in the near future.

HA! I totally thought you meant that what you read at work is fiction!

Hmmm … yeah, I can see how it could be taken that way. That’s definitely not what I meant, though. :-)
