Slow
6 October 2009
I broke in the heart rate monitor tonight during my run jog. I made a conscious effort to keep my heart rate in Zone 1, the lowest training rate. I failed miserably, despite going wicked slow.
5.06 miles, 58:19, 11:29/mile
I am not sure I could go any slower without walking. That leads me to wonder if my zone 1 recovery runs will actually be zone 1 recovery walks. If that’s how it will be once I fully implement heart rate training … wow … I will likely need strong antidepressants. I realise that the goal is to improve my metabolic efficiency, and that it will ultimately lead to my being a faster, better runner, but … but … *sigh* … this will be hard.

wise advice i once got: don’t think of it as a very slow run. think of it as a very fast picnic.
(and ever drink anything with chunks in it!)
That’s good advice; thanks! It was definitely an easy run; I almost felt like I didn’t do anything.
damn. NEVER drink anything with chunks in it. never post before coffee.
but seriously, i think you’re going to be happy with this plan. lots and lots of slow miles builds base with no injury. just gotta be paaaaaaaaaaatient…
Yeah … I hear ya. I try not to do anything before I have my daily dose of caffeine.
Patience is a virtue I don’t really possess. I have also made it a point of never praying for patience, as patience is not usually earned pleasantly.
