All through the Night

11 November 2009

We have no past; we won’t reach back.
Keep with me, forward all through the night.
And once we start, the meter clicks,
And it goes running all through the night.
Until it ends, there is no end.

Cyndi Lauper’s lyrics seemed to fit this entry. Tonight, for the first time in a while, I went on a run of decent length. Technically, the run started in the afternoon, but it gets dark rather early now, and it was dark before we were a third of the way through. I ran just shy of 8 miles (7.92 to be precise) in 1:18:43. It was by far the best, most comfortable run I’ve had since Mackinac Island.

It may also be my last run for a while. I’m checking myself back into physical therapy tomorrow morning. My foot hasn’t fared well in any of the three runs I’ve logged since 24 October. As I write, my right foot is rather emphatically stating its displeasure with my actions of this evening. Given that I no longer have the excuse of being too far along in training for a marathon, I’m fairly confident that my physical therapist is going to shut me down.
